There’s something refreshing about starting the new year with a stroll outdoors. That’s what about a dozen of us did on a cloudy, warm, and dry New Year’s Day morning. While the weather was pleasant for walking the canal path, we had planned to break in our new snow shoes, which were acquired through a grant the village received through the On the Canals program which is run by the Canal Corp and NYPA. We also have to thank Parks and Trails New York for a bunch of support and swag.

Local resident Marleen is a snowshoeing enthusiast and offered to lead the hike for us. Since there was no snow, she briefly talked about the equipment and how it works before we left the Brockport Welcome Center for a stroll along the canal.

Here are a few more photos from the day.

If you are felling like you missed out, fear not, for the village has planned more snowshoeing outings over the next few weeks. You can sign up for a hike here, and while we cannot promise snow, we can promise a pleasant time with new and old friends on the Canal.
